Established in 2012, the vineyard is close-planted (1m x 1.5m), with a NW-SE row orientation designed for optimal shading through the warmest months of the growing season. Select Pinot Noir clones were chosen to match the rocky east-facing slope that rises to 500m. Its aspect, altitude and stony soils shape the style of the wines, bringing structure, purity and finely detailed fruit expression.
From 2016 to 2024, fruit from the vineyard was released under Scott’s previous venture, Provenance Wines, until that chapter came to a close with the sale of the business in mid-2024.
From the 2025 vintage onward, our wines are released under the Scotsburn Wines name, marking the beginning of a new chapter, one that reflects not only this remarkable site, but also the care, experience and quiet dedication behind every wine we make.
Scotsburn Wines was born from a simple belief that truly great Chardonnay and Pinot Noir is grown as much as it is made. At the heart of every great bottle is the vineyard itself, and the right match of variety to site makes all the difference.
In 2010 Scott Ireland and his life partner, Jen Lilburn, purchased a property of significant vineyard potential in Scotsburn, Victoria. After decades spent immersed in the world of fine wine, working, travelling and tasting extensively, and crafting wines from a neighbouring vineyard, Scott recognised an uncommon quality in this piece of country. When the opportunity arose to purchase it the decision was compelling, natural and ultimately simple, (do it if you can).
From the outset, our focus has been clear: to cultivate vines and make wines of character and detail with a true sense of place from a vineyard truly suited to Pinot Noir…. (the cows are happy here too).
